OPERA (Classical Voice)

The technical goal: sound production which can project up and out over a large orchestra or into a hall without amplification. This style demands mastering the most efficient use of the vocal mechanism. The artistic demand is also great. A facility with many languages, musicianship, emotional commitment balanced against technical control, ability to nuance for desired emotional effect, dramatic skill, interpretive imagination, an ability to identify with the humanity of (often) historically distant characters, a willingness to take large emotional risks--- these are some of the things necessary for effective performance.
